What South Dublin reported for 2025
South Dublin counted more applications for industrial buildings than any other council: 70 of the 555 in Ireland. Other functional categories (91) and civil engineering (22) are also well filled, and all 8 categories appear in its return beside 690 dwellings. Refusals were low for a council of its size, 35 across categories (27 on houses), while 12 councils had larger category totals. The council ruled 113 applications invalid. Commercial premises (28) are a smaller part of the return than the industrial figure, and farm buildings number 3. Among refusals, 4 fell in other functional categories, and 602 applications were decided within 8 weeks. Despite the largest industrial count, the return lists no refusal of an industrial building. Filings reached 1,187 in 2025, above the previous high of 1,158 in 2021. Only 7 councils ruled fewer applications invalid. Its 22 civil engineering schemes rank 3rd nationally.
These figures come from each council's annual return to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage: applications received in 2025, decisions to refuse and other measures, published under a CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. An application that fits several categories is counted in each, so the categories do not add up to a number of applications, and the Department notes that councils may have read its guidance in slightly different ways.
